Danehill Dancer Domination

Written by aporter | Jul 27, 2009

Scarcely a weekend goes by without sons of Danehill striking all over the world -- they had stakes winners in Europe, the U.S., and Australia over the latest weekend -- but they don't often match the achievement of Danehill Dancer (IRE), who had the first three home in the Camas Park and Ashtown House Studs Phoenix Stakes (Ire-I), a six-furlong event for 2-year-olds at The Curragh.

The winner, Alfred Nobel (IRE), has an unusual pedigree, as he is out of a mare by Desert Prince (IRE) (by Green Desert, by Danzig, also the sire of Danehill). The Danehill/Green Desert version of Danzig/Danzig has a stakes production record only a little better than opportunity, but has produced seven stakes winners, two of them group/grade I. There is actually a little more going on here: Danehill Dancer is by a son of Danzig out of a mare by Sharpen Up (GB) (by Atan), and Alfred Nobel's dam, Glinting Desert (IRE), is by a grandson of Danzig out of a mare by Warning (GB) (by Known Fact, who is out of a half-sister to Atan).
