City Slickers -- Carson City's Freshman Sons at Stud

Written by aporter | Jul 28, 2009

Two sons of Carson City are among the freshman sires recently represented by their first stakes winners.

Pollard's Vision (TrueNicks,SRO) was represented by Vertical Vision who captured the Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes. Pollard's Vision -- who ranks highly on the leading freshman sire table -- has now been represented by five winners, and they also include Air Crew, who took second in the Premio Giuseppe de Montel as a juvenile, and third in the Premio Primi Passi (Ity-III) earlier this year. This is a pretty promising start for Wintergreen Stallions' Pollard's Vision, as he was a somewhat atypical Carson City. Although he broke his maiden at Saratoga and was third in the Huntington Stakes at 2, he did much better at 3 and 4, when he captured four graded stakes, securing his most valuable triumph in the Illinois Derby (gr. II).

Two weeks before Vertical Vision's biggest win, another Carson City son, Hear No Evil, got off the stakes mark when his son Jackson Bend captured the Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes at Calder. Jackson Bend is out of a mare by Tabasco Cat (giving that combination of Carson City and Storm Cat that we hold in high regard) and is TrueNicks rated A++.  Hear No Evil won the Criterium Stakes at 2, a pair of stakes including the Unbridled Stakes at 3, and the Chris Thomas Turf Classic at 5, and was also graded-placed on several occasions.

Black-Type Stakes winner Acting Zippy won last week.  Another Carson City/Storm Cat cross through sons City Zip and Future Storm.
