Northern Farm Sale to Offer Top-Quality Pedigrees

A total of 64 fillies and mares are cataloged to the Northern Farm Broodmare Sale which is slated to take place at Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Horse Park Oct. 27. The catalog features 10 fillies and mares by Deep Impact, Japan's leading sire who passed away in July 2019. Among those is Hip 10, Timeless Melody (JPN), a 7-year-old half sister to Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) winner Logi Universe (JPN), who is in foal to United States champion sprinter Drefong, whose first foals are yearlings of 2020. Both Hip 46, Windy Spell (JPN), and Hip 50, Crazy Quilt (JPN), are 3-year-olds by Deep Impact who are now out of training. Windy Spell is out of U.S. champion 3-year-old filly Proud Spell and Crazy Quilt is out of Fashion Plate, who won the Santa Anita Oaks (G1). Six fillies and mares by King Kamehameha, another prominent Japanese sire who died in August 2019, are cataloged to the auction. Among those is Hip 38, Daoine Sith (JPN), who was bought at the 2006 Japan Race Horse Association Select Sale for ¥600 million (US$5.22 million)—the highest price ever paid in the sale's history. The mare is now in foal to New Year's Day, sire of U.S. 3-year-old champion Maximum Security, who was moved to stand at Shadai Stallion Station in 2020. Northern Farm conducted their Broodmare Sale for the first time in 2019, when 57 fillies and mares were sold for ¥481,700,000. Primera Vista (JPN), a half sister to Japanese Horse of the Year Buena Vista (JPN), was bought by Isami Nakamura's K.I. Farm for ¥62,000,000 (US$580,524), the highest price at the session.
