Well-bred Speculating to Enter Stud in Manitoba

Ziprick Thoroughbreds and Charles Fouillard announced Oct. 28 they will be standing Speculating, an unraced son of Medaglia d'Oro, at Fouillard Farm near St. Lazare, Manitoba, for an introductory fee of CA$1,500. The 4-year-old colt was bred in Kentucky by Susan Casner out of the Notebook stakes winner Well Dressed, making him a half brother to multiple group/grade 1 winner Well Armed (Tiznow). The mare also produced Railbird Stakes (G3) winner and stakes producer Witty (Distorted Humor), grade 1-placed winner Helsinki, stakes-placed winner Only in America, and winner Life Well Lived, the dam of grade 1 winner American Patriot. Speculating was well regarded at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where Taylor Made Sales Agency sold him for $235,000 to agent RiceHorse Stables. RiceHorse pinhooked the colt for Bella Inizio Farm at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, where he was a $345,000 buyback. The colt went into training with Jena Antonucci, but a tendon injury prevented him from ever starting. Agent Ed Price contacted Cam and Sherisse Ziprick of Ziprick Thoroughbreds about standing Speculating. "We weren't looking for a stallion … but it was pretty impossible to turn down a stallion prospect that gorgeous and with that level of pedigree," Sherisse Ziprick said. When Speculating enters stud next year, he will be the only son of Medaglia d'Oro standing in Canada.
