Group 1-placed, group 2 winner Royal Lytham becomes the first son of English and Irish classic winner Gleneagles to enter stud in Ireland. He is standing at €4,000 for Gary Duffy's Irish Emerald Stud at Clongiffen Stud in Co. Meath.

"I'm a big fan of Gleneagles," said Duffy, who acquired the 4-year-old privately toward the end of 2020. "He has all the attributes to be a top stallion. He's a gorgeous individual with a smart good-looking head, he has a big powerful athletic walk, and he is unbelievably correct."

Bred in France by Haras Du Logis Saint Germain, Royal Lytham sold for €180,000 (US$205,884) to M.V. Magnier at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale and raced for longtime partners Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith, and Michael Tabor. The colt won at first asking and quickly proved himself in top company by winning the Tattersalls July Stakes (G2) and finishing third in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (G1). Royal Lytham raced at 3, retiring with a pair of wins out of seven starts and more than $99,500 in earnings.

Royal Lytham is the first black-type winner produced by group-placed stakes winner Gotlandia, who is a half sister to stakes-placed winner Gaiete. Gotlandia's dam Grenade is a half sister to group 1 winner and stakes producer Glorosia.

"We have been really encouraged by the response received with numerous quality mares booked into him and several breeding rights sold, so he has gotten off to a flying start," said Duffy.
