A half brother to Runhappy Malibu Stakes (G1) winner and Saudi Cup runner-up Charlatan , Bennyfromthebronx, debuts in the fifth race at Gulfstream Park Feb. 27.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, the son of Tapit  is out of the Quiet American mare Authenticity, whose foal prior to Charlatan, Hanalei Moon (Malibu Moon) also became a stakes winner. She captured the One Dreamer Stakes on turf at Kentucky Downs in 2019.

Authenticity was also a stakes winner, taking the La Troienne Stakes (G2) and Shuvee Handicap (G3) during a 4-for-12 career in which she made $883,362 for owner Padua Stables and trainer Todd Pletcher.

Bennyfromthebronx sold for $300,000 to Field Point Associates at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the consignment of Warrendale Sales, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. She was purchased shortly after Hanalei Moon's stakes victory but before Charlatan emerged on the racing scene.

Hanalei Moon and Charlatan are the dam's only starters. She also has an unnamed 2-year-old filly by Into Mischief .

Bennyfromthebronx, owned by Peter Brant, has recorded 17 published workouts leading up to his debut, with 12 of those works at Payson Park for trainer Chad Brown. The bay breezed a half-mile from the gate in a bullet :48 3/5 Feb. 13.

Earlier this year at Gulfstream, Brown debuted another colt related to a highly successful horse: Stage Raider, a half brother to 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify . Stage Raider ran second to Prevalence Jan. 23

Bennyfromthebronx is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line for Saturday's fifth race, a $55,000 maiden race at a mile. Favored at 2-1 is second-time starter Collaborate, a close fifth in his Feb. 6 debut after a slow start. Also entered is 9-2 shot Blitz to Win, third in his only race behind next-out Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) winner Candy Man Rocket in a Jan. 9 maiden race.
