Jockey Dylan Davis Out 6-8 Weeks With Broken Clavicle

Jockey Dylan Davis is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks with a broken left clavicle as a result of a March 20 spill in the ninth race at Aqueduct Racetrack in which one of the three horses involved in the incident died. Fellow rider Jorge Vargas Jr., who was released from Jamaica Hospital March 21, came away with possible back and rib injuries, according to his agent, Jimmy Riccio, Jr. Riccio said that he did not line up mounts for Vargas on the March 26 card that was drawn Sunday. Pending test results, he was uncertain of when Vargas would resume riding. Mike Migliore, the agent for Davis, said it was unfortunate that his rider would be sidelined for two months but was thankful the injury was not more severe. "This is a rough game. We were moving along well at the meet and building momentum for the Belmont Park meet, but thank God, it wasn't a worse injury given how scary it looked. Hopefully he'll be back by Memorial Day," Migliore said. Davis is fourth with 44 wins at Aqueduct's winter meet, while Vargas is sixth with 28 wins. The accident occurred midway on the final turn of the maiden special weight race for 3-year-old fillies bred in New York when Kiss Me Dave, a first-time starter, went down and perished on the racetrack, tossing Vargas. In the chain reaction, Davis and Tellaperfecttale also fell while Maybe I Know jumped over the fallen horses, losing rider Nik Juarez. While Vargas and Davis were both taken to the hospital, Juarez walked away apparently unscathed and rode his March 21 mounts. Maybe I Know continued running after dumping Juarez and crossed the finish line before he was caught, while Tellaperfecttale walked off the racetrack.
