American Patriot Sires First Winner in Japan

American Patriot was represented by his first winner June 6 at Chukyo Racecourse in Japan when his first-crop daughter Breathlessly (JPN) defeated 12 other 2-year-old colts and fillies in a 1,400-meter (about seven-furlong) newcomers race, winning by 1 1/4 lengths in front-running fashion. Breathlessly is a Godolphin homebred produced in Japan from the Commands (AUS) mare Hush (JPN), who is from the family of group 1 winners Kukeracha (NZ), Alydaress, and Cape Cross. She is trained by Kenichi Fujioka and was ridden to victory by Kota Fujioka, completing the distance in 1:23.1 on good to firm turf. Hush foaled a Talismanic (GB) colt this year and has since been covered by Thunder Snow (IRE), according to Darley. American Patriot was a WinStar Farm homebred trained by Todd Pletcher whose best victory came in the 2017 Maker's 46 Mile (G1T). The now 8-year-old son of War Front also won the 2016 Kent Stakes (G3T) and was third in that year's Secretariat Stakes (G1T). He retired with five wins and three thirds in 14 starts and earnings of $487,272. His dam, the Tiznow mare Life Well Lived, is a full sister to 2009 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1) winner Well Armed. It is also the extended female family of Japan's two-time Horse of the Year Symboli Kris S. American Patriot stands at Darley Japan Stallion Complex for a ¥1.5 million fee.
