Pink Kamehameha Dies From Heart Failure

Al Rajhi Bank Saudi Derby winner Pink Kamehameha (JPN) died due to heart failure during the Unicorn Stakes (G3) June 20 at Tokyo Racecourse, according to a Tweet by Kate Hunter, a Japan-based representative for horses and connections from that country competing abroad. Pink Kamehameha in February traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Saudi Derby. The 3-year-old colt by Leontes (JPN) stalked the pace on the outside, took over down the stretch, and held off fast-closing United States contender Cowan to win by three-quarters of a length, giving Japan-based trainer Hideyuki Mori a victory in the first two runnings of the race. Next on Pink Kamehameha's agenda was the March 27 UAE Derby Sponsored by Emirates NBD (G2), where he finished 10th. That race was won by Saudi Derby fourth Rebel's Romance (IRE). "Devastated to learn that Pink Kamehameha suffered heart failure in today's Unicorn Stakes," Hunter wrote Sunday. "We had an amazing two months together in Saudi Arabia and Dubai. He gave it his all every time, winning the Saudi Derby." Pink Kamehameha was campaigned by Hisako Kimura and bred in Japan by Hatakeyama Stud Farm. He was produced from the Dancing Brave mare Tabatha Tosho, also dam of multiple grade 1 winner Sweep Tosho and stakes winner Tosho Freak.
