Curlin Filly from Fast Female Family Brings $575K

A Curlin filly from a fast female family made the grade for Patrice Miller of E.Q.B. Sept. 18, bringing $575,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Consigned as Hip 1406 by Denali Stud, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised, the filly is the first foal out of the Bernardini mare Berned, winner of the 2018 Molly Pitcher Stakes (G3) and Serena's Song Stakes and the 2017 Safely Kept Stakes, and runner-up in the 2016 Tempted Stakes (G3). The mare was also second in the 2018 Royal Delta Stakes and Chilukki Stakes (G2). Berned was purchased for $825,000 by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings from the Lane's End consignment to The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's marquee breeding stock sale in 2018. The filly's second dam, First Passage, by Giant's Causeway, made her mark on the track as well, winning the 2009 Azalea Stakes (G3) during her 3-year-old campaign. The March filly checked all the boxes for Miller, who purchased her on behalf of Andrew Warren to head to California. "She's fabulous," Miller said. "One of the things I liked is when you see a first or second foal out of a fast mare, and it's a live family. She's a beautiful filly with a tremendous walk on her. "It's the first horse I have gotten at the sale," Miller added. "We are hoping to get some more. I was starting to get discouraged. The market is strong."
