Japanese Breeders' Cup Delegation Expands to Seven
Vin de Garde (JPN), trained by Hideaki Fujiwara, entered the quarantine barn at Ritto Training Center Oct. 15 ahead of shipping to California, expanding the Japanese delegation for the Breeders' Cup to seven. Shadai Race Horse's 5-year-old horse by Deep Impact won the Fuji Stakes (G2) in October of 2020 and finished second in the March 27 Dubai Turf Sponsored by DP World (G1). Van de Garde finished eighth in the Mainichi Okan (G2) at Tokyo Oct. 10, his first start since the Dubai Turf. He'll be entered in the FanDuel Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T). Yuichi Fukunaga is booked to ride. Yoshito Yahagi will be represented by two runners at Del Mar. Loves Only You (JPN), a 5-year-old Deep Impact mare who finished third in the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) and won the FWD Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ Cup (G1) at Sha Tin in the spring, will be entered in both the Longines Turf (G1T) and the Maker's Mark Filly & Mare Turf (G1T). Marche Lorraine (JPN), a black-type winner on dirt, is intended for the Longines Distaff (G1). Hideyuki Mori will send Matera Sky, second in the Saudi Arabian Airlines Riyadh Dirt Sprint in February, to the Qatar Racing Sprint (G1); Jasper Great, successful on debut Oct. 9 going nine furlongs on Hanshin's dirt, to the TVG Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G1); and Jasper Prince and Pingxiang to the Big Ass Fans Dirt Mile (G1).
