Zarak Filly Tops Day 4 of the Arqana October Sale

The fourth day of the Arqana October Yearling Sale Oct. 21 saw the strong demand continue during the first half of Part III of the catalog. A total of 84% of the yearlings presented were sold at an average price of €16,007 (US$18,609), generating a turnover of €1,216,500 ($1,413,646). Offered as Lot 568 from the Haras de Castillon consigment, a half sister to group 1-placed Graignes (FR) was purchased for €95,000 ($110,434). Anne-Sophie Yoh Benet had the final say for the the American-bred daughter of Zarak (FR). Out of the Slickly mare Grey Anatomy, the filly hails from the family of grade 1 winners Skimming and Contredance as well as group stakes winner Eltish and graded winner Forest Gazelle. “She’s a lovely filly that is very well bred. She really has star quality,” said Yoh Benet. "I’ve bought her for a new client that already invested in broodmares last year and is now buying their first yearlings. We’ve bought five this week. They’ll stay in France and then we’ll decide on trainers according to the individual thereafter.” A little later in the day, bidding reached €43,000 ($49,971) for a son of Shalaa (IRE) out of the listed stakes- winning Royal Applause mare Luna Royale. John Hammond and Federico Barberini purchased the colt from Normandie Breeding. The sale continues Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. with the second half of Part III of the catalog.
