Instagrand's First Foals Born in Kentucky

Instagrand, Taylor Made Stallions' grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner, sired his first reported foals when a filly out of grade 1 winner Concrete Rose was born Jan. 10, and a colt out of the Tiznow mare Siesta was born Jan. 8. Concrete Rose, a daughter of Twirling Candy out of the winning Powerscourt (GB) mare Solerina, was a $1.95 million Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale acquisition in 2020 by Larry Best's OXO Equine, which also bred the filly that is the mare's first foal. Concrete Rose enjoyed a stellar racing career in which she won the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T), Edgewood Stakes presented by Forcht Bank (G3T), Florida Oaks (G3T), and the Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes at Saratoga Race Course at 3 in 2019. At 2, she won the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland. Concrete Rose captured six of seven starts—five of them stakes—and banked $1,218,650. She was bred by Ron Patterson in Kentucky. Bred by Ron Patterson in Kentucky, Concrete Rose is from a family that steadily produces black-type performers. The mare's dam is a half sister to multiple group winner Lovers Knot (GB), whose granddam is Donna Inez, a half sister to Kentucky Derby (G1) winner and Horse of the Year Ferdinand. Siesta, a daughter of Tiznow out of the Harlan's Holiday mare Miz Kella, is a half sister to recent Zia Park Distaff Stakes winner Canoodling and hails from the immediate family of champion 2-year-old colt Shanghai Bobby, winner of the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) and that year's Champagne Stakes (G1) on his way to championship honors. The family also has produced Oak Leaf Stakes (G1) winner City Band. Siesta showed ability at 2, selling for $240,000 at the 2018 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, but never started. Siesta's Instagrand colt was bred by Jay Goodwin, Dr. Michael Hore, and Doc Atty Stables. The mare also has a 2-year-old by Always Dreaming and a yearling by Yoshida (JPN). Best bought Instagrand, a son of three-time leading North American sire Into Mischief, for a sale-topping $1.2 million at Fasig-Tipton's The Gulfstream Sale from consignor Eddie Woods. The colt won his debut by 10 lengths in a maiden special weight at Los Alamitos Race Course, running five furlongs in :56. In his second start, he led gate to wire to win the 2018 Best Pal Stakes (G2) at Del Mar by 10 1/4 lengths. Instagrand followed up his sensational juvenile season by placing in a pair of key Kentucky Derby preps at 3. He placed in the Gotham Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack and set the pace in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his two-turn debut, finishing behind Roadster and champion 2-year-old colt and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Game Winner. Instagrand is produced from the winning Lawyer Ron mare Assets of War, who is out of grade 3 winner and stakes producer Added Asset. Instagrand bred 190 mares in his initial season at stud and he will stand the upcoming breeding season for $7,500.
