Aqueduct Cancels Jan. 15 Due to Forecast of Bitter Cold

The New York Racing Association canceled racing Jan. 15 at Aqueduct Racetrack due to dangerously low wind chill values forecast to impact the New York City metropolitan area Saturday. The current National Weather Service forecast, which aligns with NYRA's independent weather services, is calling for extremely cold temperatures and sustained winds creating wind chill values as low as -5 Fahrenheit. As a result, NYRA has canceled Saturday's card in the interest of the safety of all participants. Saturday's featured race, the $100,000 Franklin Square Stakes, will be rescheduled for Jan. 22. The training track at Belmont Park will be closed Saturday, but the jogging barns will remain open. Live racing at Aqueduct is scheduled to resume Jan. 16 with a nine-race card headlined by the $100,000 Ladies Stakes.
