Beach Patrol Sires First Winner in Japan

Multiple grade 1 winner Beach Patrol was represented by his first winner when his son Rise Zone won at second asking June 13 in a 1,400 meter 2-year-olds conditions contest on the dirt at Kawasaki Racecourse. Bred by Matasada Kunida, Rise Zone was third in his May 19 debut for trainer Hiromi Yamazaki. The colt is out of the Neo Universe (JPN) mare Habitable Zone, who has produced three winners from three foals to run. Habitable Zone hails from the family of the US grade 1-winning mare Strategic Maneuver. Beach Patrol, a son of Lemon Drop Kid, was initially trained by Wayne Catalano and then by Phil D'Amato for Gary and Mary West to begin his racing career. He was then purchased by James Covello, Sheep Pond Partners, and Head of Plains Partners and shifted to the barn of Chad Brown in the spring of 2016, where he went on to capture three grade 1 events on the turf including the Secretariat Stakes (G1T) at 3, the Arlington Million XXXV Stakes (G1T), and Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) at 4. An earner of over $2.5 million, Beach Patrol was also a narrow second to Talismanic (GB) in the 2017 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T). Al Shahania Stud obtained an interest near the end of Beach Patrol's career and in 2018 he was retired to stand at Lex Stud in Japan.
