Emotion Gives Frankel 100th Individual Stakes Winner

It was a case of calculators and calendars at the ready July 30, but no mistaking one particular achievement as the valuable Emotion (GB) became her sire Frankel (GB)'s 100th individual stakes winner in the British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes at Newmarket. Statistical double-checking revealed that the reigning champion sire has equaled the record time in order to achieve the milestone with the breed-shaping Danehill, a Juddmonte product who went on to worldwide success under the Coolmore umbrella. The pair both took exactly 2,402 days to reach that number, clocking on from the first of January in the year that their debut crop would be eligible to race. Danehill, who had extended his prospects by shuttling to the southern hemisphere, held the record alone when his son Commands (AUS) claimed the Missile Stakes (G3) in Australia on July 31, 1999. Frankel is superficially a day earlier from his maiden crop in 2016 but has had one extra leap year day during this time. Frankel, who became the fastest to 50 northern hemisphere group winners last year, picked up stakes winner number one with the first of what are now seven crops of racing age when Fair Eva (GB) took the Princess Margaret Stakes Juddmonte Stakes (G3) at Ascot. Qatar Racing's Emotion, captured the 1 1/2 mile Chalice Stakes by a length under jockey Andrea Atzeni in her fifth career start. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the 3-year-old filly had broken her maiden at Kempton in April over the all-weather surface four starts back. In her last effort, the Queen's Vase Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot, she found the race was a little too much, too soon, and she finished 11th. Emotion is produced from the 2012 Qatar Prix du Cadran (G1) victress Molly Malone (FR), a daughter of Lomitas (GB). David Redvers went to the equivalent of $706,440 to acquire Molly Malone from the Monceaux consignment at the 2017 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale. Molly Malone has already produced Morgan Le Faye, who landed the Prix Corrida (G2) in 2019. Frankel, an unbeaten 10-time group 1 winner on the track, has sired 25 group or grade 1 winners thus far. In 2022, he is responsible for eight group 21 winners, including classic winners Westover (GB), Homeless Songs (IRE), and Nashwa (GB). The son of the late Galileo stood the 2022 breeding season for £200,000 at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud near Newmarket in the United Kingdom.
