Kia Ora Stud's Farnan Has First Foal on Ground

Kia Ora Stud stallion Farnan (AUS), by Not A Single Doubt (AUS), has welcomed his first foal, a colt by the 2020 Longines Golden Slipper (G1) winner. At 3, Farnan also captured the Inglis Silver Slipper Stakes (G2) and UNSW Todman Stakes (G2) with trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Kia Ora returned to stand stallions last year, with Farnan spearheading the roster alongside group 3 winner Prague (AUS). The first-born colt is out of Insta Erma (by Pioneerof the Nile), third in the 2017 Matriarch Stakes (G3T) and winner of the 2018 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T). He is the third foal out of the mare, who was bought by Kia Ora for AU$800,000 (US$619,355) from the Newgate consignment at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale. “It’s only fitting that Kia Ora’s first foal of the season is by our champion 2-year-old Farnan. He’s a great type, good size, lots of scope, quality, clean-limbed, and just so athletic. I’m absolutely rapt with him,” Kia Ora’s Shane Wright said. Farnan, out of the group 3 winner Tallow (AUS), by Street Cry (IRE), who herself took the 2010 The Mittys Vanity (G3), was purchased from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions January Gold Coast Sale by Phoenix Thoroughbreds II/Aquis Farms for $392,700.
