There are 1,293 Japanese-bred yearlings cataloged for the Hokkaido Horse Breeders' Association Summer Sale, which will be held Aug. 22-26 at Shizunai on Hokkaido Island.
The Summer Sale has the largest yearling catalog in the Japanese sales calendar, with multiple leading sires on show, including Daiwa Major, Duramente, Kizuna, Orfevre, and Rulership.
One yearling that is featured is Hip 246, a filly by Duramente who is consigned by Champions Farm. She is out of the Elusive City mare Interim, a half sister to grade 1 winner Lightening Pearl.
Shadai Farm comes with a one-horse consignment, Hip 384, a colt by Daiwa Major. He is out of the Nonko mare Powerful Nonko, a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Nonkono Yume.
Hip 509 comes from the first crop of Rey de Oro, who won the 2017 Tokyo Yushun Japanese Derby (G1) and the 2018 Tenno Sho Autumn (G1). The colt is out of the Deep Impact mare Invisible One, who is a half sister to multiple grade 1 winner Game on Dude.
The only yearling in the catalog by a sire standing in North America is Hip 1194, a colt by City of Light from the Hamamoto Farm consignment. He is the first foal for the Super Saver mare Mississippi Coast, who was purchased by Bon Voyage at the 2021 Keeneland January Sale for $125,000 from the Indian Creek consignment.
