Mind Control, Slumber Top Rockridge Stud Fees

Topped by fees for Mind Control, who enters stud this year, and Slumber (GB), sire of 2022 graded stakes winner Sy Dog and multiple graded stakes winner Fluffy Socks, Rockridge Stud announced Jan. 13 its 2023 stallion roster. The Hudson, N.Y., farm will host a stallion show Jan. 28 from noon to 2 p.m. ET, with attendees eligible for free seasons in a raffle. With a relatively small number of foals, 15-year-old Slumber has risen up the stallion ranks, ranking 11th in New York last year. Three of his 12 runners last year were black-type runners, and that 25% strike rate in 2022 for black-type horses was the highest among top-ranked third-crop sires. He will stand for an advertised fee of $7,500, stands and nurses. Mind Control, a 7-year-old son of multiple grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty out of the stakes-winning mare Feel That Fire, will stand his initial season for $8,500. A homebred for Stephen P. Brunetti's Red Oak Stable, Mind Control was high-class from ages 2 to 6, racing for Red Oak Stable and Madaket Stables. This past year under the direction of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, Mind Control won three of six starts, highlighted by the Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) in his final outing. The 2023 stallion lineup at Rockridge Stud also includes Tourist, who moves to New York after previously standing at WinStar Farm in Kentucky. Rockridge Stud Fees **Mind Control is a joint venture with Irish Hill/Dutchess Views Farm, Waldorf Farm, and Hidden Lake Farm. *Tourist stood at WinStar Farm in Kentucky in 2022.
