First Foals Arrive for Roadster, Colonel Liam
Ocala Stud's grade 1 winners Roadster and Colonel Liam have both sired their first reported foals, the farm announced Jan. 17. Roadster, a son of prominent sire Quality Road and winner of the 2019 Santa Anita Derby (G1), sired his first foal when a filly out of the Kiss the Kid winner Yooou Den was born Jan. 8. Dominique Damico bred the filly, whose dam was a 12-time winner and earned $185,340. Yooou Den has already produced a multiple winner in Yooou Know (Valiant Minister), who won twice last year and finished in the money in nine of 12 lifetime starts. Colonel Liam, a son of Liam's Map and two-time winner of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1T), was represented by his first foal when a filly out of the winning Jess's Dream mare More Glory was born Jan. 12. The filly was bred by Peter Mirabelli. More Glory is out of the Proud Citizen mare Brickyard Gal, who is a half sister to group 1-placed, group 2 winner Moviesta (Hard Spun). More Glory traces tail-female to multiple grade 1 winner Magical Maiden, who is the dam of grade 1 winner and multiple graded stakes producer Miss Houdini. Roadster defeated stablemate and 2018 Eclipse champion 2-year-old male Game Winner in the 2019 Santa Anita Derby. In addition to his signature win, Roadster finished second in the Malibu Stakes (G1) to Omaha Beach, was second in the San Carlos Stakes (G2), and was runner-up to eventual grade 1 winner Mucho Gusto in the Affirmed Stakes (G3). Roadster is out of the stakes-winning and stakes-producing Silver Ghost mare Ghost Dancing and is a half brother to grade 1 winner and Keeneland track record-setter Ascend (Candy Ride (ARG)). Roadster was sold by his breeder—Arthur Hancock III's Stone Farm—at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $525,000 to Speedway Stable. Colonel Liam won consecutive editions of Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes in 2021-22 at Gulfstream Park. He also won the $1 million Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) at Churchill Downs and earned a career co-best Equibase Speed Figure of 113. Bloodstock agent Jacob West bought Colonel Liam for $1.2 million during the 2019 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale on behalf of Robert and Lawana Low. He stood out during the sale's undertack show with a quarter-mile breeze in :20 4/5. Liam's Map ranks in the top five of his sire class with more than $28.5 million in progeny earnings and is a half brother to multiple leading sire Not This Time. Colonel Liam is out of the Bernardini mare Amazement, who is a daughter of multiple grade 1 winner and stakes producer Wonder Again. Roadster bred 153 mares in his first season at stud in 2023, and he stands for $7,500. Colonel Liam bred 138 mares in his first season at stud in 2023, and he stands for $6,500. Both stallions stand with stands and nurses guarantees.
