Spun to Run's First Winner Shines in Night Beacon

Gainesway's grade 1 winner and freshman sire Spun to Run sired his first winner May 10 when his daughter Night Beacon won her racing debut at Santa Anita Park. Mulholland Springs bred Night Beacon in Kentucky out of the Songandaprayer stakes-placed winner Stormandaprayer, who is out of 2000 Spinaway Stakes (G1) winner Stormy Pick. Night Beacon is a half sister to stakes winner Classicstateofmind (Classic Empire) and graded stakes-placed winner Harlands Thunder (Harlan's Holiday). Stormandaprayer, who has produced seven winners from as many starters, delivered a filly by Girvin this year. Night Beacon was sold for $45,000 by Mulholland Springs during the 2023 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale to S-One Bloodstock. The filly now races for WSS Racing and trainer Ryan Hanson. She won her debut going 4 1/2-furlongs on the main track in near gate-to-wire fashion, clicking off sharp fractions of :21.64 and :45.69 before stopping the timer in :52.30 and winning by 2 3/4 lengths. Spun to Run is an 8-year-old son of Hard Spun who compiled a 5-2-3 record from 12 career starts and earned $1,160,520. He won multiple stakes including the 2019 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and Smarty Jones Stakes (G3). He also was second in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) and third in the Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) that year. Spun to Run stands for $10,000.
