Mystik Dan, Thorpedo Anna Doing 'Fine' at Saratoga

Trainer Ken McPeek said May 29 that that Kentucky Derby (G1) victor Mystik Dan and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Thorpedo Anna continue to train forwardly as he mulls a final decision on spots for their next races. McPeek said he will likely make a decision on the 3-year-old grade 1 winners' status June 2 or 3 following scheduled June 1 works at the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga Race Course. "They are both doing fine," McPeek said. McPeek said both Mystik Dan and the filly Thorpedo Anna are possibilities for the $2 million Belmont Stakes (G1) June 8 at Saratoga, though only one of them will run in the 1 1/4-mile final jewel in the Triple Crown Following his victory by a nose in the Kentucky Derby, Mystik Dan ran second to Belmont candidate Seize the Grey in the Preakness Stakes (G1) by 2 1/4 lengths. If he runs in the Belmont, he would be the only 3-year-old to compete in all three legs of the series. "I want to get a work into him and see that he's as strong afterwards as he was before the work. He's going the right way but I am not leaning one way or the other. I am waiting for him to tell me what to do," McPeek said about the son of Goldencents owned by Lance Gasaway, 4 G Racing, Daniel Hamby III, and Valley View Farm. If Mystik Dan is entered in the Belmont, Thorpedo Anna will run at the Spa in the June 7 Acorn Stakes (G1) for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles. A daughter of Fast Anna, Thorpedo Anna is owned by Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and McPeek's Magdalena Racing. The post position draw for the Belmont is June 3. Entries for the Acorn close Saturday.
