WinStar Stallion Promises Fulfilled Sires First Winner

WinStar Farm stallion and freshman sire Promises Fulfilled was represented by his first winner June 26 when Coastland captured a maiden special weight at Thistledown. Coastland is trained by Timothy Hamm and races for his breeders, WinStar Farm and Blazing Meadows Farm. The Ohio-bred colt hopped at the start of his debut but quickly made up lost ground on the pacesetters and closed with a three-wide move turning for home. Under steady encouragement, Coastland collared his rivals and kicked clear to a 1 1/2-length score in a final time of 1:00.24 for five furlongs on a fast main track. The colt returned $7.80 as the third choice in a field of six juveniles. Coastland is the second winner produced from the Winslow Homer mare Mother Nature. Unraced, Mother Nature is a half sibling to stakes winner Faction Cat. Promises Fulfilled, a son of 2011 Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Shackleford, was a grade 1-winning sprinter capable of stretching his speed to 1 1/16 miles. Graded stakes placed at 2, he won the two-turn 2018 Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park before landing three graded stakes races around one turn, including the 2018 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. He returned as a 4-year-old to win the 2019 John A. Nerud Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. Retiring with earnings of $1,455,530, Promises Fulfilled stood the 2024 breeding season for a fee of $5,000.
