Play the Music Aims to Continue Hot Streak in Hendrie

Entering off consecutive graded victories, Glassman Racing's Play the Music looks to keep her hot streak alive when she faces 11 fillies and mares July 6 in the $135,000 Hendrie Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. The 4-year-old Mo Town filly has been at the top of her game this season, winning four of her last five starts. Her most recent victories have given her the experience she will need for the Hendrie, with the May 4 Whimsical Stakes (G3) being conducted on synthetic and the June 1 Royal North Stakes (G3) covering 6 1/2 furlongs. Combining both aspects could lead her to victory for trainer Mark Casse. Jim Bakke and Gerry Isbister's Honey Pants is the only other graded winner in the field, thanks to her Jan. 14 Las Cienegas Stakes (G3T) score at Santa Anita Park. Since then, the 6-year-old Cairo Prince mare left California and hit the board in two ungraded stakes. Ronald Boone and Richard Tillema's Marissa's Lady boasts the highest purse earnings in the field with $652,849, but is still in search of her first graded win. A six-time stakes winner, the Violence mare makes her first trip north of the border off consecutive allowance defeats. A wild card in the field could be Reitman Stables' Freedom Speaks. The lightly raced 5-year-old American Freedom mare boasts a solid record, with victory in the 2022 listed Music City Stakes, but has only raced once in the last 20 1/2 months, with that start coming 14 1/2 months ago. The Hendrie is race 8 with post time at 4:59 p.m. ET.
