OTBO to Conduct First Online Auction Sept. 23-27

The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association will hold its first online mixed auction Sept. 23-27 with a selection of young horses, broodmares, and racing prospects. The auction will be conducted by Salering.net, which has previously hosted the organization's annual stallion season auction in December. "The Ohio program represents incredible opportunities for both breeders and owners to participate in over $10 million in purses annually including 44 stakes for Ohio-bred horses," said Mike Annechino, OTBO's executive director. Buyers can register for free to participate on salering.net. A preview will go live Sept. 19 with the auction starting at 9 a.m. ET Sept. 23 and bidding continuing through 7 p.m. Sept. 27. The auction does have a dynamic close, which means the sale on a horse will continue as long as bids are being submitted. This year, any broodmare purchased in this sale will receive a free season to any of the 15 stallions standing at Buckeye Stallion Station or Howlett Ranch, according to Annechino. All Ohio-bred horses passing through this sale will automatically become eligible for the annual $50,000 OTBO Sales Grad Stakes conducted for 3-year-olds at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course. The 2025 edition will mark the fourth annual running of this stakes. "We encourage everyone around the country to consider participating in the state-bred program that offers the best bang for the buck in the racing business," said Annechino. Editor's note: Buyers and not horses being entered can register for free on salering.net. An earlier version of this story indicated otherwise.
