Lexitonian Colt Tops Breeders Sales of Louisiana

The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association's Breeders Sales of Louisiana held its 2024 yearling sale followed by a mixed session, Sept. 27 at the Louisiana Equine Sales and Event Center in Opelousas, La. The sale cataloged 170 yearlings of which 14 were scratched. Of the yearlings offered, 122 sold for a gross of $1,214,700 and an average of $9,957. The median was $5,000. Consignors had 34 buy-backs. For the mixed session, 23 of 35 horses cataloged were sold, including 14 mares, seven horses of racing age and two weanlings. Three horses in this session were RNAs. The mixed sale generated a $42,700 gross and a $1,857 average. Gross receipts for the entire sale totaled $1,257,400. Hip 97, a bay colt by Calumet Farm's first-crop yearling sire Lexitonian out of Spun Lace (Hard Spun), topped the sale after the hammer came down on a final price of $115,000. The second-highest price for the day was $80,000 for Hip 95, a filly by Star Guitar out of Solo Buena. Both were purchased by Noble Oaks, agent, from the Clear Creek Stud consignment.
