Dresden Row Bests Older Rivals in Durham Cup

Third in his stakes debut last time out on the turf, Dresden Row proved a force on the Woodbine main track, springing a 10-1 upset victory in the Sept. 28 CA$135,000 Durham Cup (G3). Facing older rivals, 3-year-old Dresden Row grabbed the lead halfway down the stretch as 3-5 favorite Paramount Prince began to buckle. Forging to the lead, the son of Lord Nelson was then all out to hold off the late closing rush of Ron's Gizmo. Dresden Row prevailed by a head under jockey Ryan Munger, getting the 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic surface in 1:42.04. Stanley House completed the trifecta. Last year's Sovereign Award-winning champion 3-year-old and King's Plate Stakes victor Paramount Prince, faded to finish last of five. Owned in partnership by True North Stables and Bloom Racing Stables and trained by Lorne Richards, Dresden Row ($22.50) registered his fourth win in seven lifetime starts and boosted his earnings to $183,527.
