Stay and Scam Takes Aim at Senator Ken Maddy Stakes
Multiple graded stakes-placed Stay and Scam looks to regain her form in the $200,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Del Mar Nov. 1. The 4-year-old Square Eddie filly is coming off a third-place finish in the California Distaff Handicap at Santa Anita Park Oct. 12 for trainer Doug O'Neill and owner Reddam Racing. She will have to face stablemate Just Nails, a 5-year-old mare by Twirling Candy who is coming off a win in an allowance optional claimer at Santa Anita Oct. 4. Just Nails ran second at the same level Sept. 2 at Del Mar, where she was defeated by Maryland-bred Kissed by Fire. Kissed by Fire will be looking to continue her win streak at Del Mar for trainer Peter Eurton and owners Commonwealth Thoroughbreds, Exline-Border Racing, Ocean Reef Racing, and Aaron Kennedy. The Friesian Firefilly has shown an affinity for the track, winning her last three starts at Del Mar. Artislas The One To Beat in Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes Artislas has crossed the wire first in every one of his races, though interference in his last race cost him the win in the Zuma Beach Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Oct. 6. The Catalina Cruiser colt, trained by Jeff Mullins, will face 13 rivals in the $200,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes at a mile over the turf at Del Mar Nov. 1. Sabertooth finished a fast-closing third when bumped at the wire in the Zuma Beach Stakes but was moved up to second when Artislas was disqualified. The Maryland-bred colt by Grazen also ran second behind Artislas in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3) Sept. 8 for trainer Jeff Mullins. Pali Kitten is coming off a win in the Speakeasy Stakes at Santa Anita Oct. 5 for trainer Doug O'Neill. The Vino Rosso colt is lightly raced, just breaking his maiden Aug. 18 at in a claiming race at Del Mar. Frankie Dettori has the mount.
