Old Friends Hosts Winter Hay Fundraiser
With winter fast approaching, Old Friends announces its HayRaiser fundraiser campaign to help raise funds to support our herd of over 270 horses. Every donation, whether its $5 or $500, helps feed the horses. The fundraiser runs from Wednesday, Nov. 27, through Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3. It typically takes in excess of 400 round bales to get our herd of 270+ horses through winter, with each bale lasting 5-7 days depending on the herd number, so your help is very much appreciated. "The Thanksgiving season is a perfect time to remember all of our retired Thoroughbred athletes at Old Friends," said John Nicholson, President and CEO of Old Friends. "They have given so much and now it's our turn to give to them. Our ability to care for over 270 horses every day, year round, is dependent upon the generous support of those who have a special appreciation for these horses and all that they have done." Be sure to mention that you are donating to the HayRaiser fundraiser: Old Friends 2024 HayRaiser Fundraiser 1841 Paynes Depot Rd. Georgetown, Ky. 40324 This year's HayRaiser fundraiser is even more important than in previous years. Here in Scott County, Kentucky, where Old Friends is located, we've experienced the second driest October on record in the last 130 years. This was great for enjoying the outdoors and the Keeneland Fall race meet, but not so great for our paddocks, as we had to start supplementing our Thoroughbred retirees' forage with hay sooner than planned. Our greatest reward is seeing healthy happy horses in our fields and we can't do it without your support. Our Thoroughbred retirees give thanks to all of our supporters throughout the year, and a very special thank you to all who donate food for us this Thanksgiving and Holiday season!
