Reliable Source Becomes Volatile's First Stakes Winner

Grade 1 winner Volatile was represented by his first stakes winner Nov. 26 when the 2-year-old filly Reliable Source romped in the $100,000 Zia Park Princess Stakes at Zia Park. In her first start since finishing sixth in the Aug. 31 Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, Reliable Source sat just off the pace for jockey Jose Ortiz before overpowering the opposition in the stretch, taking the lead at the eighth pole and drawing off to an eight-length win while completing six furlongs in 1:08.29. She is a two-time winner from four starts with $138,400 in earnings for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, who teamed with Ortiz to win two other stakes on the card. Reliable Source is a gray and/or roan out of the unraced Broken Vow mare Repeta. The Volatile filly is a half sister to two-time grade 3 winner Mucho Del Oro, stakes winner and grade 1-placed Funtastic Again, and grade 2-placed Lady Glamour. Reliable Source is a homebred for Three Chimneys Farm, who campaigned Volatile in his racing career in partnership with Phoenix Thoroughbred III.
