Pretty Ana Digs In for First Stakes Score in Comely
Three Chimneys Farm homebred Pretty Ana notched her first stakes score in a gritty effort in the $194,000 Comely Stakes (G3) Nov. 30 at Aqueduct Racetrack. Trained by Chad Brown, the daughter of Quality Road captured one of the last races of the year for sophomore fillies in the 1 1/8-mile Comely. A close third in the Mother Goose Stakes (G2) last time out, Pretty Ana earned her victory the hard way—dueling for command on the front end through fractions of :24.41, 49.32, and 1:13.45 early before putting her rivals away and fending off favored Alpine Princess in a dogfight to the wire. Jockey Jose Lezcano guided Pretty Ana ($9.40) to her head tally. Alpine Princess settled for second while Scalable closed from the back of the pack to grab third. Pretty Ana stopped the clock in 1:49.99 for 1 1/8 miles on a fast main track. "I'm so happy for Mr. Torrealba and the whole Three Chimneys team," Brown said. "This is their core family, and this filly is worth quite a bit of money. Hopefully, they keep her in training next year and we can build on her résumé. She's lovely to have and on top of what she did today, she's a very classy horse and a pleasure to have around." The regally bred Pretty Ana is out of the graded stakes-winning Giant's Causeway mare Quiet Giant, the dam of 2017 Horse of the Year and top Three Chimneys stallion Gun Runner.
