Soul of an Angel Returns to Work Tab After BC Triumph

C2 Racing Stable, Agave Racing Stable, and Ken Reimer's Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) winner Soul of an Angel returned to the work tab Dec. 16 with a three-furlong breeze in :38.18 at Gulfstream Park. Following her thrilling last-to-first, half-length victory in the Breeders' Cup, the 5-year-old daughter of Atreides returned to Florida for a freshening. Her Monday morning move was her first recorded workout since the Nov. 2 triumph at Del Mar. "She's doing well," said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. "We gave her a little break after the Breeders' Cup and the plan is to get her back for the Rampart." Joseph said a second breeze is planned Dec. 22 ahead of the Dec. 26 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream. The $125,000 race is contested over a one-turn mile. Soul of an Angel is undefeated in three starts around one turn since moving to Joseph's stable ahead of her victory in the May 4 Ruffian Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack. The day after the Breeders' Cup, Joseph mentioned the idea of possibly aiming the mare toward the $20 million Saudi Cup (G1) at King Abdulaziz Racecourse Feb. 22, a one-turn, 1 1/8-mile contest. Although the idea is still in his mind, Joseph said no final decision is in place. "Saudi was never really set in stone for her, maybe there or we go to the Madison (at Keeneland in April)," Joseph said. "We're not going to decide that until after the Rampart."
