First Foal by Simplification Born in Florida

The first reported foal for graded stakes winner Simplification was born Jan. 17 in Florida. First Finds Farm and Brittany Updike own the colt, whose dam is the Quality Road mare Calidad. The winning mare comes from the immediate family of West Hills Giant, a multiple black-type stakes winner and graded stakes-placed performer and earner of nearly $660,000. "Simplification is a good-looking, classy stallion. His first foal is exactly what we expected—strong, healthy, good bone, and great conformation," said director of stallion services Christine Jones. "What a brilliant way to start his career as a stallion. We expect big things for his future!" A son of top sire Not This Time, Simplification was trained by Antonio Sano for owner Tami Bobo. He dominated by 16 3/4 lengths in breaking his maiden second time out before going on to a successful 3-year-old campaign. Putting himself on the 2022 Kentucky Derby (G1) trail early, he captured the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) and Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park before finishing fourth in the Run for the Roses. He also placed multiple times that year at the graded level, including a third-place finish in the Florida Derby (G1). Returning at 4, he placed in the Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2). Simplification retired with earnings of $873,110. Simplification stands the 2025 breeding season at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston Fla., for a fee of $6,500. He is the only son of Not This Time standing at stud in the United States outside of Kentucky.
