Pearl Secret Heads Stallion Parade at Arrow Stud
Arrow Stud's Stallion Parade will be held Feb. 7 and among the 31 stallions to be exhibited is Pearl Secret (GB), who recently arrived in Hokkaido Jan. 18. Trained by David Barron at Yorkshire, Pearl Secret won seven races, including the 2015 Temple Stakes (G2) at Haydock, and finished third in the 2013 King's Stand Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. He started his stud duty at Bucklands Farm and Stud in 2017. Pearl Secret traces back to Byerley Turk—one of three foundation sires of the Thoroughbred—which is now endangered. Pearl Secret is one of the last Byerley Turk-line stallions. CROWE: Rare Byerley Turk-Line Stallion Sold to Japan This sire line prospered during the 20th century in Japan when Symboli Rudolf and Tokai Teio, who both earned Japan Racing Association Horse of the Year, emerged from this sire line. However, Tokai Teio's Quite Fine (JPN) is the only active stallion who inherited this sire line. Yuki Shimomura, owner of Okaribe Farm in Hokkaido, hopes to save the sire line of the Byerley Turk by standing Pearl Secret at Arrow Stud. Pearl Secret stands for ¥500,000 (approx. US$9,020) in 2025. Multiple graded-stakes winner Firenze Fire, whose first crop are 2-year-olds this year, will also take part in the parade. Firenze Fire hit the board in 24 of his 38 starts in the United States, earning $2,730,350. A stakes winner from ages 2-6, his most notable win came in the 2017 Champagne Stakes (G1).
