Multiple Group 1 Winner California Spangle Retired

Three-time group 1 winner California Spangle (IRE) has been retired. In a career that spanned 34 starts, the Tony Cruz-trained gelding won on 13 occasions, including at group 1 level in the Hong Kong Mile (G1) in 2022 and in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (G1) and Al Quoz Sprint (G1) in 2024. The former of those three elite-level wins saw him defeat Hong Kong champion Golden Sixty (AUS) by a neck. Bred in Ireland by Mr. M. Enright, California Spangle, campaigned by Howard Liang Yum Shing and later by the executors of his estate, was named Hong Kong's champion sprinter in 2024. As a 4-year-old, California Spangle also won the Hong Kong Classic Cup and finished runner-up to another champion, Romantic Warrior (IRE), in both the Hong Kong Classic Mile and Hong Kong Derby. Throughout his career, the son of Starspangledbanner earned $10,530,465.
