Four Equinox Foals Offered at Northern Farm Mixed Sale
A total of 67 foals and 62 fillies or mares are cataloged for Northern Farm's Mixed Sale Oct. 21 at Northern Horse Park near Chitose Airport on Hokkaido Island. The foal catalog includes four first-crop foals by Equinox (JPN), the world's highest-rated horse in 2023. Hip 7, a colt by Equinox, is the third foal out of Incarville (FR). Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm bought the mare by Wootton Bassett (GB) privately soon after she won the 2021 Prix Saint-Alary (G1) at Longchamp. Hip 14, a colt by Equinox, is the fifth foal out of Iridessa (IRE), a four-time group 1 winner trained by Joseph O'Brien. Yoshida bought the mare, who was bred by the trainer's family, privately when she retired due to injury in February of 2020. Hip 22, a filly by Equinox, is the sixth foal out of Positive Mind (ARG), a champion juvenile filly in Argentina. Hip 28, a colt by Equinox, is the third foal out of Mystic Journey (AUS), a 3-year-old filly champion in Australia. At Japan's Racing Horse Association Select Sale in July, 23 foals by Equinox were sold for ¥3.6 billion (approx. US$24 million) in total, and the average price was ¥155 million (approx. US$1.05 million). Hip 12, colt by Kingman (GB) out of One Thousand Guineas (G1) winner Cachet (IRE), and Hip 17, a colt by Drefong out of Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (G1) winner The Platinum Queen (IRE), are also featured in the foal catalog. Both Cachet and The Platinum Queen were bought by Yoshida at the Tattersalls December Sale for US$3,131,136 and US$1,707,892, respectively.
