Graded Winner Mythical Back in Florida for Susan's Girl
The middle legs of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association Florida Sire Stakes series continue Oct. 18 at Gulfstream Park without the winners of the first legs—Lennilu and Fourth and Central—but with two dozen other juveniles. Thirteen fillies, one of them an also-eligible, are entered in the Susan's Girl division, and 11 males will compete in the Affirmed division. Both races are worth $200,000 and are at seven furlongs on the main track. The Susan's Girl is headed by Arindel's homebred Mythical, a graded stakes winner who has been victorious in three of four starts. She was successful on debut at Gulfstream Park before taking the Tremont Stakes and the Adirondack Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course for trainer Jorge Delgado. The St Patrick's Day filly will look to bounce back from a fifth-place finish in the Aug. 30 Spinaway Stakes (G1) when a taxing early speed duel left her fatigued. Finding Strength and Love Like Lucy—2-3 in the Desert Vixen— head the opposition. The Affirmed also features a graded stakes dropper in John Oxley's homebred Strategic Risk, who ran fourth in the Sanford Stakes (G3) and sixth in the With Anticipation Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga after a debut win on dirt at Gulfstream for Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse. Camigol and Trelawny are the top finishers from the Dr. Fager, having respectively been second and third.
