Deep Satin Heads Field of 13 for Goldikova Stakes

A two-time stakes winner, Deep Satin will look to add her first graded stakes victory to her resume Nov. 1 in the $300,000 Goldikova Stakes (G3T) at Del Mar. The 4-year-old filly by American Pharoah leads a field of 13 fillies and mares as the 7-2 morning-line second choice. Deep Satin comes into the race off a noble effort in the First Lady Stakes (G1T) at Keeneland where she finished fourth, just a couple head bobs behind the winner Simply in Front. She has made five starts this year, with one win and two placings. Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride her for the first time. The favorite is the Irish-bred Special Wan (IRE) who comes off a win in the Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T) at Kentucky Downs Aug. 30. She comes into Saturday's race fresh for owners Team Valor International and Steven Rocco. Dance Smartly Stakes (G2T) winner Breath Away (GB), trained by Miguel Clement, enters the Goldikova off a two-race win streak, both in stakes races. The 5-year-old mare races for owners Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Steven Rocco, and Marc Levine. The Goldikova is the third race on the Breeders' Cup World Championships' Saturday undercard. The race is named after the late champion mare Goldikova, who won three consecutive editions of the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) in 2008-10. She received Eclipse Awards in 2009-10 for champion grass mare in addition to receiving the Cartier Award for Horse of the Year in 2010. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.
