Whitethorn Leads Penultimate Day of Keeneland November

Whitethorn, a 3-year-old Not This Time filly from the family of multiple champion Malathaat, sold to Repole Stable for $475,000 to headline the seventh session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Nov. 9. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Juddmonte, and cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect, Whitethorn is out of the winning Uncle Mo mare Cognitive. A half sister to stakes winner Show Card, she is from the family of grade 1 winners Dream Rush and Dreaming of Julia; grade 2 winner Julia Shining; and grade 3 winners Dream Pauline and Song of Spring. Whitethorn was the lone Monday purchase for Repole Stable, the session's leading buyer. Taylor Made Sales Agency was the session's leading consignor with sales of $1,141,500 for 25 horses. On Monday, Keeneland sold 259 horses for $8,444,500, including post-ring sales, nearly even from the seventh session last year when 285 horses brought $8,596,600. The average rose 8% from $30,164 to $32,604, and the median of $25,000 is 9% above $23,000 last year. The seventh session had 58 RNAs for a rate of 18%. Since the auction began Nov. 4, 1,725 horses have changed hands for $242,428,000, including post-ring sales, for an average of $140,538 and a median of $80,000. The gross is 26% higher than the corresponding period in 2024, when 1,705 horses brought $190,377,000. At $160,000, Monday's highest-priced weanling was a colt from the first crop of grade 1 winner Gunite sold to Louis Dubois, agent for Wesley Ward. Consigned by Wasabi Ventures, agent, he is out of the Justify mare Itgetsgreaterlater and from the family of grade 1 winner Cupid; grade 2 winner Kathleen O.; and grade/Group 3 winners Hostess, Heart Ashley, Fiano Romano, Ashley's Kitty, and V V's Dream. Two weanling colts sold for $135,000 apiece. Stella Stables paid the amount for a son of Yaupon consigned by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services, agent. Out of Cherry Marie, by Carpe Diem, he is from the family of grade/group 3 winners Derby Kitten, Cherry Jubilee, Traverse City, Lord Golazo, and Flower Party. Machmer Hall acquired a weanling colt by Essential Quality for $135,000. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, he is out of stakes winner Secret Passion, by Archarcharch, and from the family of grade/group 2 winners Atrevido Cry and Stolen Base. A weanling colt by Tiz the Law consigned by Brookdale, agent, sold to Nellie Bloodstock for $130,000. Out of Mystical Journey, by Curlin, he is from the family of Canadian champion Leonnatus Anteas and group/grade 1 winners Sistercharlie and Sottsass. The final day of the November Breeding Stock Sale begins Nov. 11 with Session 8 beginning at 10 a.m. ET and immediately followed by Session 9. Keeneland will hold the November Horses of Racing Age Sale Nov. 12. That auction starts at noon ET.
