Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance Charity Auction Kicks Off

The Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance (ITA) has reinvested more than $114,000 into the state's horse and racing industry through its unique Stallions & Services Charity Auction--and this year's edition is set to make an even greater impact. Continuing its mission to support the people who power Indiana's equine community, the ITA is once again partnering with the innovative auction platform BidXSell. The auction preview opens December 2, with bidding going live December 9 at 8 a.m. EST and a rolling close beginning at 4 p.m. EST on December 11. Featuring more than 30 premium stallion seasons from Indiana and Kentucky, along with an array of professional services ranging from bodywork to veterinary exams, this premier event is poised to elevate the standard of equine excellence. "Our motto this year is, 'Quality stallions, meaningful impact,' because we believe that everyone can make a difference in our industry," says Christine Cagle, the auction coordinator and ITA board member. "We know that money is tight and there's a lot of uncertainty in our industry at the moment, but one thing that is for certain is that we can all come together to raise money for those who will benefit the most." The ITA Stallions and Services Auction is dedicated to uniting the Midwest horse racing community in support of essential initiatives such as scholarships, educational opportunities, and industry outreach. Proceeds directly strengthen Indiana's horse racing ecosystem by advancing education, promoting responsible aftercare, supporting promotional efforts, and assisting individuals within the community. This annual event reflects the ITA's continued commitment to fostering a vibrant, sustainable, and forward-moving equine industry in Indiana. In the past five years, proceeds from the sale have been given to a variety of groups from Thoroughbred rehabilitation, therapeutic riding facilities, equine industry scholarships and more. This allows the ITA to make an impact not just within the state of Indiana, but also in the industry. This list includes: ● The ITA Crisis Fund ● Establishment of the Indiana Equine Connection Grant ● Tri-State Thoroughbred Rehab and Rehoming, Inc. ● Children's TheraPlay ● Otto Thowarth's Backside Ministries ● Sales promotion for Indiana-bred horses ● Educational seminars Indiana's Thoroughbred stallion lineup is getting a major boost in 2025, thanks to the arrival of headline-making freshman stallions and accomplished millionaires standing in the state for the first time. Breakway Farm in Dillsboro, Indiana, will offer its full stallion roster in this year's auction, including Grade 1 winner and millionaire Maximum Security, Churchill Downs record holder Bango, as well as Bolzy, BopTrot, and Necker Island. These newcomers join a powerhouse stallion barn already home to perennial leading sires such as Unbridled Express, Forever d'Oro, and Charming Kitten. Indiana Stallion Station is debuting the first Belmont Stakes winner to stand in Indiana, with Tapwrit (Tapit), as well as multiple graded stakes winner In Due Time (Not This Time). They join veteran stallions like Bahjatty (Carp Diem), whose progeny caught fire racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis in 2025 like Sir Bahjy, and Qurrbaan (Speightstown), sire of MGSW Charlene's Dream. The entire Indiana Stallion Station roster is listed in the auction to also include Lentenor (full brother to Barbaro), Gr1 winner Ice Box, Elnaawi, Egyptologist and Santiva. New to the Midwest Equine and Veterinary Hospital roster is Howling Time, a graded stakes-placed son of Not This Time. Also making strides is Smolinski, the only son of Into Mischief standing in Indiana, who now stands at S Bar S in Peru and is poised to make an even greater impact on the state's breeding program. Both of these impressive stallions are already gaining attention from breeders across the region. Seasons have also been donated by leading farms in Kentucky, including Darby Dan, Gainesway, Spendthrift Farm, Crestwood and Walmac, giving owners a chance to purchase seasons to stallions such as By My Standards, Known Agenda, Karakontie, Charge It, Raging Bull and Tapit Trice. The Crestwood stallions include Stage Raider, the half-brother to Justify (Pioneerof the Nile), Gr1 winner Caracaro and Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston. New to this year's auction, Walmac Farm is offering their roster, including MGSW Core Beliefs and Fulsome, son of Gun Runner Pappacap and Gr1 winner Pinehurst. "We appreciate the support of these Kentucky farms for our auction each and every year," says Cagle. "Between the best stallions in Indiana and these Kentucky stallions, there's a match for every mare." Last year's partnership with online auction platform BidXSell provided a huge boost to the sale, as well as a great way to introduce industry leaders to the future of online horse auctions. A defining feature of the ITA auction is the inclusion of specialty services alongside stallion seasons. Wolfe Veterinary Services of Northern Kentucky has generously contributed veterinary services for the fifth consecutive year, while Dierwood Farm returns with three separate performance and rehabilitation packages. Additional support comes from Cedar Creek Winery & Distillery in Martinsville, Indiana. With the sale taking place just before the holidays, these offerings make excellent gift options for the hard-to-shop-for horse owner. The auction also provides a timely opportunity to secure last-minute charitable tax deductions while supporting a nonprofit dedicated to the industry. "I think Midwest breeders will be able to find exactly what they need to win on the track in a few years in this auction," says Cagle. "We're always thankful for our supporting farms." The auction will open for live bids on December 9 at 8 a.m. EST with the rolling close beginning on December 11 at 4 p.m. EST.
