Godolphin, Ortiz Jr., Cox Top 2025 Earnings Leaderboard

Godolphin, which campaigned 13 North American graded stakes winners, including dual classic winner Sovereignty, set a single-season record in earnings as the leading owner for the fifth consecutive year, and Irad Ortiz Jr. established a single-season record as the leading jockey by earnings according to final statistics released by Equibase. Brad Cox ended the year on top as the leading trainer by earnings, his first earnings title since 2023 and third overall. The year-end compilations are distributed annually by Equibase and include results from Thoroughbred racing in North America from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025. Expanded North American racing leaders' lists that include all trainers, jockeys, owners, and horses are available within the statistical section at equibase.com. These lists include the ability to look at leaders in a variety of categories, including age, sex, surface, graded races, foaling year for horses, and the inclusion of designated foreign races, such as the Saudi Cup (G1) and Dubai World Cup (G1). Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Sovereignty, who also won the Travers Stakes (G1) and Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), led all Thoroughbreds in North American earnings with $5,692,020 from five wins and one second in six starts. Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Forever Young (JPN) was the leading earner when including earnings from Dubai World Cup and Saudi Cup days on the virtue of his victory in the Saudi Cup and third-place finish in the Dubai World Cup. Dubai World Cup winner Hit Show was second in earnings when the Dubai/Saudi Cup days criteria were included. Completing the list of top 10 horses by North American earnings were Journalism with $4.19 million, Forever Young with $3.64 million, Ethical Diamond (IRE) with $2.6 million, Sierra Leone with $2,188,200, Shisospicy with $2,044,645, Fionn with $1,968,970, Fierceness with $1,928,970, White Abarrio with $1,910,070, and Nitrogen with $1,909,400. Some of the leading horses also were the top earners from their respective foal crops. The leading earners by foaling year from the past five years were Ted Noffey (by Into Mischief, 2023 foal crop), Sovereignty (by Into Mischief, 2022 foal crop), Sierra Leone (by Gun Runner, 2021 foal crop), National Treasure (by Quality Road, 2020 foal crop), and White Abarrio (by Race Day, 2019 foal crop). For the fifth consecutive year, Godolphin—with 104 North American wins from 448 starts—was a dominant force among owners in 2025, with record earnings of $22,395,556, surpassing their previous mark of $20.2 million set in 2024. When including earnings from the Dubai and Saudi Cup days, Godolphin's earnings for the year were $23,355,556. Completing the list of top 10 owners by North American earnings in 2025 were Klaravich Stables, $6,786,768 (71 wins/297 starts); Juddmonte, $6,041,145 (27/135); Calumet Farm, $5,163,792 (60/482); D. J. Stable, $5,123,422 (53/267); Spendthrift Farm, $5,051,885 (32/119); Winchell Thoroughbreds, $4,246,845 (29/208); Repole Stable, $4,100,620 (52/287); Flying P Stable, $4,024,987 (41/226); and Bruno Schickedanz, $3,835,311 (151/1,138). In a tight battle between Ortiz and Flavien Prat, Ortiz maintained the narrowest of margins in the final days to finish the year on top with earnings of $40,497,847, less than $2,000 ahead of Prat's total of $40,496,178. Both riders became the first to surpass $40 million in earnings. Ortiz reached the winner's circle 351 times from 1,631 mounts in 2025, while Prat won 310 races from 1,256 mounts. Rounding out the list of top 10 jockeys by North American earnings in 2025 were Jose Ortiz, $33,994,860 (320 wins/1,466 starts); Luis Saez, $27,473,226 (243/1,516); John Velazquez, $21,284,926 (117/778); Tyler Gaffalione, $20,503,817 (185/1,053); Manuel Franco, $19,544,623 (214/1,236); Junior Alvarado, $18,318,159 (116/752); Kendrick Carmouche, $14,619,426 (188/1,033); and Joel Rosario, $14,528,953 (104/703). Cox sent out the winners of 277 races from 394 starters with 1,068 starts for earnings of $30,255,435 in 2025. Completing the list of top 10 trainers by North American earnings were Steve Asmussen, $24,939,805 (331 wins/603 starters/2,275 starts); Chad Brown $24,487,934 (203/342/887); Mark Casse, $23,216,251 (237/392/1,486); Todd Pletcher, $19,187,793 (142/273/729); William Mott, $17,165,020 (106/197/662); Saffie Joseph Jr., $17,032,668 (219/324/1,087); Mike Maker, $16,768,187 (206/334/1,143); Brendan Walsh, $15,611,634 (133/261/757); and Bob Baffert, $14,366,800 (103/109/338).
