Millionaire Simply in Front On Offer at Keeneland Sale
In just her second start, Simply in Front ran second in the 2023 Natalma Stakes (G1T) behind eventual multiple grade 1 winner She Feels Pretty. The subsequent summer, the daughter of Summer Front achieved her own graded stakes success in the $2 million Music City Stakes (G2T) at Kentucky Downs. In 2025, Simply in Front won three of her five starts, capping the year with a pinnacle win in the First Lady Stakes (G1T) at Keeneland. Returning to the place of her grade 1 success, buyers will have the opportunity to make the exquisite mare part of their broodmare band at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, Jan. 12. The 5-year-old mare is cataloged as Hip 413, and consigned as a broodmare prospect by Richard Hogan, agent. Hogan purchased Simply in Front for owner Colebrook Farms at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $115,000. He said the filly was a "must have". "She was the same filly as she is now," Hogan said when asked what stood out about the filly as a yearling. "She was just not as big and powerful as she was a yearling, obviously, back then. She's got the balance, she's got a beautiful eye, a beautiful head on her, intelligent. She's just lovely, balanced, great hind leg, great shoulder, and depth, substance, bone, she's got everything. I just loved everything about her." Noting his respect for her breeder, William Harrigan—who bred the mare in partnership with Mike Pietrangelo—Hogan said he took the horseman's advice seriously when Harrigan advised him to look at the filly. He prevailed in a bidding war, pointing out that the underbidder was the late Christophe Clement. Simply in Front is out of the Blame mare Complicated, who has regal Phipps blood running through her veins. In addition to Simply in Front, she has produced last year's Natalma Stakes winner And One More Time and multiple graded stakes winner Honor D Lady. "Her pedigree just exploded after I bought her. It's just the perfect storm," Hogan said. Simply in Front finished her career with earnings in excess of $2.8 million from 16 lifetime starts for Colebrook Farms and trainer Eddie Kenneally. "(Trainer) Patrick Dixon did a great job with her, Mike Cook at Classic Mile, and then we sent her to Eddie, he did a wonderful job," Hogan said. "She's been fantastic." Hogan was optimistic for the mare's success at the sale, coming off record-breaking September and November Sales at Keeneland. "We've still got the tax write-offs, the big beautiful bill," he said. "(The buyers) are going to buy the mares, the producers, especially at the top, which this filly is right at the top."
