Blue-Chip Mares Highlight Tattersalls February Sale
A smart collection of 307 lots has been cataloged for the two-day Tattersalls February Sale. The auction, which will take place Feb. 5-6, will also feature the Tattersalls British EBF Stallion Parade and Retraining of Racehorses Showcase at 11 a.m. before the opening session. Among the most eye-catching of the 16 broodmare entries are Brazilian group 1 winner Namasse (BRZ), who will be offered in foal to Cracksman (GB) on a Southern emisphere cover by Consign Ltd, and the Whatton Manor Stud-consigned Soft Cover, a Shamardal granddaughter of champion filly Superstar Leo who is in foal to champion first-season sire Starman (GB). Other covering stallions represented include Chaldean (GB), Shaquille (GB), Palace Pier (GB), Perfect Power (IRE), Triple Time (IRE), Vandeek (GB), Cotai Glory (GB), Kodiac (GB), and Sergei Prokofiev. Fillies and mares from the Godolphin consignment are led by Joyful Act, a Frankel (GB) daughter of dual classic winner Blue Bunting, while the draft also includes promising types such as Monoceros and Naval Command. The draft from Juddmonte features several interesting 3-year-old colts, led by the dual runner-up Leonetto, a Frankel half brother to group 1 winner Lady Bowthorpe, and Scutari, a winner at Deauville on his most recent start. Other prospects from around Europe include Joseph O'Brien's Goldinthesea, a son of No Nay Never who won at Dundalk last week, and Richard Hannon's recent Lingfield winner Space Invasion. There are a host of older horses with classy form, such as Shadwell's Enfjaar, who was listed-placed on his most recent start, Jack Channon's progressive Excellent Believe, and useful James Tate pair Mount Athos and Bin Ajwad. Bridget's View and Wilhelmina are noteworthy catalog entries among fillies in training. Nine 2-year-olds are cataloged, as are 15 yearlings, each representing a breadth of different sires. Tattersalls managing director Matthew Prior said: "The Tattersalls February Sale has an outstanding record of international success as a source of horses in training and broodmares, consistently producing group and listed-winning graduates across Europe, the Gulf, the USA, and Australia. "Los Angeles' brilliant win in the Tattersalls Gold Cup was the latest domestic success at the highest level for the sale, following two European classic victories in 2024. His dam, Frequential, was purchased from Godolphin and illustrates the enduring appeal of the consignments from many of the world's leading owner/breeders, which continue to make the Tattersalls February Sale such a consistently popular fixture. "The hallmarks of Europe's premier midwinter sale are its quality and diversity, and, as ever, the catalog features a combination of horses in training, breeding stock, and young stock, which look certain to appeal to a broad range of domestic and international buyers." The stallion parade features 11 young British-based sires, who will also be available for viewing afterwards. Those heading to Park Paddocks are Bradsell (GB), Diego Velazquez (IRE), El Caballo (GB), Eldar Eldarov (GB), Electrolyte (IRE), Isaac Shelby (GB), Mostahdaf (IRE), Royal Scotsman (IRE), Stradivarius (IRE), Subjectivist (GB), and Vandeek. Eight retrained racehorses will be parading in the sale ring to promote RoR.
