More Than Looks' First Three Foals Born Same Day

A trifecta of first foals arrived Jan. 24 for grade 1 winner More Than Looks. The first colt at Chesapeake Farm near Lexington, bred by Sampson Racing Stables, was foaled out of the multiple stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes-placed Eden Prairie by Mizzen Mast. An earner of $425,000, she is the dam of Minnesota Ready, by More Than Ready, a multiple stakes winner who placed in the Commonwealth Stakes (G3) at Keeneland. "We couldn't be more pleased with this colt, he's a strong, good-looking individual," said Chesapeake Farm's Collier Mathes, "The dam's success with More Than Ready made the decision to breed to More Than Looks an obvious choice after his Breeders' Cup win, we have big expectations for his future." Also in Kentucky, a filly bred by Machmer Hall, near Paris, Ky., out of Clear Voice was foaled, the first foal for the mare. Clear Voice, by Kantharos, is a half sister to 2-year-old graded stakes winner Vegas Magic. "We are thrilled to bits with this darling, leggy filly by Breeders' Cup Mile Winner More Than Looks," said Carrie Brogden of Machmer Hall, "She has a beautiful expression and is the epitome of class for a newborn." In Florida, the third foal of the trifecta arrived, a colt bred by Tag Stables, and out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Spirited Storm. She is the dam of the grade 2-placed Uncaptured Spirit and 2025 Sanibel Island Stakes winner Spirited Boss. "He is a huge colt with lots of personality, but smart," said Shelly Fournier of Lambholm South, which is near Reddick, Fla.. By leading international sire More Than Ready, More Than Looks made his first graded start a winning one in the Manila Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park, defeating a deep field consisting entirely of graded stakes winners and stakes winners. He then went on to win the $200,000 Jefferson Cup Stakes at Churchill Downs by 2 3/4 lengths. He earned the first of his four triple-digit Beyers, a 101, in that win. Returning to the races at 4, More Than Looks ran exclusively in grade 1 company. His career high came in an impressive win in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T), where he defeated a competitive international field of eight grade 1 winners. With his Breeders' Cup victory, he earned his highest career Beyer speed figure of 105 and brought his earnings to a total of $1,870,715. Bred by Hinkle Farms, More Than Looks hails from the family of multiple grade 1 winner Critical Eye. His black-type winning dam, Ladies' Privilege, by Harlan's Holiday, is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Takeover Target.  More Than Looks stands for $10,000 at Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky.
