Frigid Temperatures Cause Weekend Racing Cancellations
Due to frigid temperatures and windy conditions forecast this weekend, Aqueduct Racetrack, Laurel Park, and Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races have preemptively canceled racing on Feb. 7. Aqueduct also canceled racing for Feb. 8. Racing remains scheduled at those Thoroughbred tracks Feb. 5-6. The New York Racing Association is working with the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association and the New York Thoroughbred Breeders to schedule and apply for added race days from the New York State Gaming Commission. The $135,000 East View Stakes and $135,000 Damon Runyon Stakes, originally scheduled for Saturday, will be brought back Feb. 14, with entries to be taken Sunday. Overnight races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be offered Feb. 19-20 as described in the updated Aqueduct winter condition book, which is available at https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/horsemen/. Cold weather and snow could affect racing at other tracks this weekend. Low windchill values are forecast in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. This story will be updated if other cancellations are announced.
