Grade 1 Winner Iscreamuscream Heads F-T Mixed Sale
Despite the frigid weather that has hung around Lexington the past couple of weeks, many offerings in Fasig-Tipton's Winter Mixed Sale are expected to heat up the single-session auction Feb. 9. Among the top prospects is grade 1 winner Iscreamuscream. The 5-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy won back-to-back graded stakes as a 3-year-old, including the 2024 Del Mar Oaks (G1T). She is consigned as a broodmare prospect by Taylor Made Sales Agency. "It's a little unusual to have a grade 1 winner of her quality in the February Sale," said Mark Taylor, president and CEO of Taylor Made. "It's not unheard of by any means, but typically a mare of her quality would have ended up in November. The plan was to continue racing her, but she got a minor setback, and they decided they were just going to go ahead and sell. "She's a beautiful mare, very classy. She's one of those horses that, when you see her, it all makes sense, like okay, she's a grade 1 horse. She acts like it, she looks like it. She's been very well-received here." Iscreamuscream was campaigned by Agave Racing Stable, Little Red Feather Racing, John Hundley Jr., Marsha Naify, John Snyder, and Stacey Snyder. Agave Racing Stable purchased a 33% ownership interest in the mare in 2024 through Fasig-Tipton's Midsummer Digital Flash Sale for $330,000 ahead of her Del Mar Oaks win. Iscreamuscream is out of the graded stakes-winning Cozenne mare Silver Screamer, who is the dam of six foals of racing age, four to race, all winners, including the stakes-placed Desperate Man. "The whole family has been very solid, producing all the way down the line," Taylor said. "Another thing I would say is, (trainer) Phil D'Amato went out of his way to say, 'This is one of the best fillies I've ever trained. She was really special.' When somebody like him says that, it carries a lot of weight. "She's by Twirling Candy, who is an amazing stallion. She's the best you're going to get by him, just everything you want in a Twirling Candy. She's got balance, she's got substance. She moves really well. I think when you breed to Twirling Candy, she's what you're hoping to get. She's the best version of him." Although Taylor said this is not the ideal place to offer a mare of her caliber, he is confident she will be well-received. "We were very much hoping to have her in the sale next November, but we're happy to have her now, and I think she'll do well," he said. In addition to her race record, another selling point is that Iscreamuscream is offered with a nomination to Taylor Made's marquee stallion Not This Time. After beginning his stud career in 2017, the son of Giant's Causeway rapidly ascended to prominence as a sire, most recently securing two titles in 2025—leading turf sire, and leading sire of 2-year-olds. He finished second on the general leading sire list, only behind the legendary Into Mischief. "Not This Time has been full for a long time, but she's been on his books," Taylor said. "We decided that if the new buyer wants to honor that season, or if they want to go to a different stallion, that's fine, but they do have one saved to Not This Time. It's a good opportunity to have that access." Among Taylor Made's strong draft resides stakes winner Pop Idol (Hip 361), stakes winner Candy Light (Hip 364), and graded stakes winner Stormcast, winner of the 2024 Bessarabian Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. "I think it's going to be a very strong market for quality," Taylor added. "We've got a draft of around 40 head, and I would say we've got a dozen mares in here that are exactly what people are looking for at different levels of the market—young mares, good-looking, got some pedigree that would really fit one of these stallions coming off the track. "We've got several on the top end, in addition to Iscreamuscream, we've got Stormcast, who's a grade 3 winner, we've got a filly called Dancing N Dixie that is multiple graded-stakes placed, really nice. We've got a strong draft for this sale." As far as short yearlings go, Taylor suspects the competition will remain strong, "I think they are going to be very competitive. It seems like from November on, it's just been a slug fest, and I expect more of that tomorrow." Mia's Mom (Hip 397) is another promising mare poised to elevate the quality and excitement of the sale. Buckland Sales (Zach Madden), agent, will offer the 4-year-old mare who is carrying her first foal by Essential Quality, third-place finisher on the first-crop sire list in 2025. The filly's page received a huge update when her half brother, Skippylongstocking, notched his long-awaited grade 1 win in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park. The 7-year-old son of Exaggerator has earned more than $5.4 million throughout his war-horse career. In addition to Skippylongstocking, Mia's Mom is also a half sister to stakes winners and graded stakes-placed horses Olivia Twist and Moonlite Strike. "We're very excited to showcase Mia's Mom here at Fasig," said Buckland Sale's Zach Madden. "To me, she has everything—pedigree, looks, and is in foal to an exciting, young sire in Essential Quality. "Having Skippy last month in the Pegasus (World Cup) was awesome, and obviously a huge up in an already tremendous family." Madden said the activity at the barns has been strong despite the cold temperatures. "I think the beat will go on. Quality offerings will bring premium, mid to lower markets will be tough," Madden added. Last year's auction was highlighted by the sale of grade 1 winner Unbridled Mo's Curlin colt, who sold for $775,000 to Maverick Racing. Stakes winner Boxwood was the highest-priced mare of the sale, selling in foal to Nyquist for $650,000, to Steven Young, agent. Last year's sale saw 263 head change hands for a gross of $11,626,500, including private sales. The average price was $44,207 with a median of $17,000. Fifty-nine horses failed to meet their reserve, resulting in an RNA rate of 18.3%. Maverick Racing led all buyers with their single purchase, and Taylor Made Sales led the consignors, selling 35 from their draft for $2,529,000. The sale will begin Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. As of Sunday evening, Fasig-Tipton had reported 76 outs.
