Vasy Brings Hot Streak Into Transylvania

Vasy (IRE), a winner of two straight, looks to make it three in a row and earn his first graded stakes win in the $600,000 Transylvania Stakes (G3T) April 3 at Keeneland. Contested at 1 1/16 miles on turf for 3-year-olds, the Transylvania is one of three stakes on opening day at Keeneland's spring meet. The Irish-bred 3-year-old son of Space Blues (IRE) was winless in his first three starts before breaking his maiden in his fourth outing Jan. 25 for trainer Brendan Walsh and owner JDT Racing. He recorded another victory in the ungraded Colonel Liam Stakes Feb. 28 at Gulfstream Park by a neck over Legion Bloodstock and Awestrike Racing's speedy Honey Dutch, who returns in the Transylvania for trainer Whit Beckman. Vasy is the 9-2 third choice on the morning line in the Transylvania, moving into graded company and stretching out past a mile for the first time. He will be up against the 7-2 morning line favorite, Remember Mamba. Another horse rising in class, he is 2-for-2 against easier competition for trainer Cherie DeVaux. Most recently, the son of Kitten's Joy won a first-level allowance optional claiming race Jan. 22 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots by 3 1/4-lengths. Last fall, the CRK Stable-owned colt broke his maiden going 1 1/8 miles on the Keeneland turf, scoring by 4 1/2-lengths.
