Se Va Colando Qualifies for BC Filly and Mare Turf
Stud Jet Set and trainer J. Suárez Villarroel knew they had a talented filly on their hands entering the Gran Premio Pamplona (G1) at Hipódromo de Monterrico in Peru April 26, and they were rewarded with a professional group 1 victory that signaled better things to come for Se Va Colando (ARG). One of those things could be the $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T), as the Gran Premio Pamplona awarded her a berth through the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win And You're In. The Breeders' Cup Challenge Series is an international series of stakes races, the winners of which receive automatic starting positions and fees paid into a corresponding race of the 2026 Breeders' Cup World Championships, to be held at Keeneland Oct. 30-31. The 3-year-old daughter of Treasure Beach (GB) has been on a steady improve, and continued that trend Sunday. Now a winner in four of her last five starts, including a stakes victory in the listed Clasico Mari July last month, Se Va Colando avenged several aspects of her lone defeat in that span. Her runner-up effort in the Clasico Oscar Berckemeyer Pazos (G3) in October had been her first start at 2,000 meters (about 1 1/4 miles), and the 2:01.24 final time she ran Sunday was snappier than the 2:03.64 the winner ran in October. The winner that day was Compasion, who was easily handled by Se Va Colando Sunday while racing erratically in the stretch, finishing seventh. Most importantly, Se Va Colando showed the ability to pick her way through a large 14-horse field. Settled in mid-pack during the early stages, jockey Huber Bocanegra moved her up between horses down the backstretch behind fractions of :47.30 for a half-mile and 1:10.67 for 6 furlongs. Rounding the far turn, Bocanegra found himself shuffled to the rail in fifth, but his filly moved boldly through the tight space and moved forward to the lead as they entered the stretch. Stud Doña Licha's Super Sienna drifted wide turning for home and continued to get out down the lane. Meanwhile, Se Va Colando raced straight and strong as she punched through to defeat Super Sienna by about 3 lengths. The victory, while stretching back out to 1 1/4 miles, was a sign in the positive direction. Should she race in the Filly and Mare Turf, Corona de Oro will need to add on an extra furlong to compete over 1 3/8 miles. Bred in Argentina by Vacacion S.A., Se Va Colando is the first group winner out of the Dynamix mare Tulipera.
