American Bloodlines Drive Chiba Thoroughbred Sale
Sixty-eight ready-to-run 2-year-olds have been cataloged for the Chiba Thoroughbred Sale at Funabashi Racecourse May 22. A standout highlight of the catalog is Hip 41, a colt by Kitasan Black (JPN), the sire of three champions, including the 2023 World's Best Racehorse, Equinox (JPN). Hip 41 is the second foal out of grade 1 winner Dayoutoftheoffice, winner of the 2020 Frizette Stakes (G1), and runner-up in the 2019 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). The colt is offered by Shadai Farm, which purchased the Into Mischief mare in 2021 for $2.85 million at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Another notable entry in the catalog is Hip 33, a colt by Nadal, the unbeaten winner of the 2020 Arkansas Derby (G1), and was the leading freshman sire in Japan in 2024. The colt, who Shadai Farm also consigns, is the sixth foal out of multiple graded stakes winner Princess of Sylmar, who won the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), Alabama Stakes (G1), and Beldame Stakes (G1) in 2013. Shadai Farm purchased Princess of Sylmar at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in 2014 for 3.1 million. Princess of Sylmar's first foal, Danon Luster (JPN), by Deep Impact, won five races, including 2 stakes, and finished second in the Brazil Cup and Brilliant Stakes. Despite a small catalog, the sale consistently produces elite performers. In 2025, graduates included Osaka Hai (G1) winner Bellagio Opera (JPN), Saudi Arabia Royal Cup (G3T) winner Ecoro Alba, and Naruo Kinen (G3T) winner David Barows (JPN).
