Golden Tempo Firm at Top, For Now, in 3-Year-Olds Poll

A week out from the Preakness Stakes (G1) leaves the ranking of top American 3-year-olds unchanged in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's weekly poll released May 11. Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Golden Tempo leads the standings with slightly more points than he received following his blazing late dash to victory in the Run for the Roses. He leads with 311 points for Week 16 of the poll versus 301 points for the previous week. Looking to improve their standing in the May 16 Preakness, being run this year at Laurel Park, are Incredibolt, who ran sixth in the Derby; maiden runner Ocelli, who was third in the Derby; undefeated Taj Mahal; and Preakness 9-2 morning-line favorite Iron Honor. Virginia Derby winner Incredibolt ranks 10th in this week's poll with 46 points, while the other three earned points in the NTRA poll but fell outside the top 10. Ocelli received 34 votes, Taj Mahal got eight, and Iron Honor has six. The lone filly in the 3-year-old top 10 is Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Always a Runner, who ranks seventh. Other fillies to get votes include Oaks runner-up Meaning, Bella Ballerina, and On Time Girl. In the poll for all Thoroughbreds, the top three remain locked at Magnitude (297 points), White Abarrio (278), and Sovereignty (231). See the complete NTRA weekly polls
